We’ve been honored to serve as your student body president and vice president for the past three quarters, and are looking forward to seeing where student government heads [...]

Friday, March 5th, 2010The opening reception for the Senior Art Exhibit will be held Wednesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. on the third floor of the Marshall Brooks Library. Facing the day without Facebook
Friday, March 5th, 2010Just over a month ago, while I was sitting with the other Lazy Zipper improv comedy team members at dinner, they decided it would be fun to start a rumor that I was engaged. They yelled the news in the dining room, and people looked around, but my crossed arms and sunken figure probably dissuaded them from being tricked. However, immediately after the meal, several Lazy Zipper members updated their Facebook statuses about how happy they were I was getting hitched. They also left comments on my Facebook wall announcing their joy
What can I do?
Friday, March 5th, 2010Over the past few weeks, with the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, the fighting in the Middle East, and the whole list of other things that make us wonder if the world is getting better, it has seemed increasingly difficult to see how I can do anything to help. How can I, a moneyless, resource-less, powerless college student, actually do something to noticeably help the injured, aggravated, or impoverished people of the world?
International-domestic student relations
Friday, March 5th, 2010The Civil Rights movement may be associated with the 1960s, but racism in the United States is very much still a reality, no matter what is said about the developing acceptance of skin color. What is even more unsettling is that there is a color consciousness on the Principia College campus.
The Fresh Faces of Student Government
Friday, March 5th, 2010As winter quarter comes to a close, a new Student Activities Board (SAB) is poised to take over in the spring, along with six students pioneering new positions that the outgoing student government has put in place.
Loan-based aid delayed
Friday, March 5th, 2010The new loans that international students expected to receive this coming fall will be delayed, probably until 2011. The new loan program represents a major shift away from the largely grant-based aid that has comprised most of the financial aid offered to students from developing countries.
Coming after a widespread reduction in student employment hours, a rise in federal incomes taxes owed by international students, and a job market in recession, the loan proposal has been a source of controversy between the international student community and administrators.
Is PAC liquid gold?
Friday, March 5th, 2010The Public Affairs Conference (PAC) office is one of those places on campus that few people really know about. Tucked away in the depths of the School of Government, it isn’t the kind of place many frequent on a daily basis. But a few dedicated and worldly students will become quite familiar with this office as they prepare and plan to host this year’s conference, titled The End of Oil? Energy Challenges in the 21st Century, from April 8-10.
Dust off your dance shoes, alumni
Friday, March 5th, 2010Dance Production is over. Sad? No need to be. Come June, Principia’s first-ever Alumni Dance Retreat and Production gives dance-lovers another chance to share the joy of dancing at Principia.
Dance Production 2010
Friday, February 19th, 2010It has taken countless hours of purposeful and focused rehearsal to get to this point. Starting Week 1, each dancer must commit to two hours of practice a week per dance, weekly Saturday rehearsals that include the entire cast, and a dance technique class. That means that some of the more involved dancers and student choreographers spend up to 15 hours a week in Morey or the Hay Field House dance studios. Although dancers earn a few credits for their hard work and can elect to drop one of three academic courses, the production is still time-consuming.
