Rackham Rave will not be held this fall. Instead, the event has been postponed to the beginning of next semester, according to Rackham’s house board.
Traditionally hosted in Rackham’s recreation room, the rave is known for its energetic atmosphere, student-decorated space, and vibrant dress code that often includes glow-in-the-dark paint, accessories, and loud techno music.
“It’s been really successful the last couple of years,” said Tiffiny Randolph, resident counselor of Rackham House. “The board this year voted that they wanted to try something different,” she added, explaining the decision to postpone the event.
Randolph said the board has been taxed with a lot of other things this semester, and organizing the rave would require more time and manpower than they could spare.
“Due to the lack of effort given to help set it up, and the amount of effort it takes to take it down, it just didn’t seem worth it,” said sophomore Makayla Kurtz, one of the social heads on Rackham’s house board.
Despite the pause, Kurtz said interest in the rave remains high. “Hopefully, we’ll get more help next semester since there’s a lot to achieve,” she said.
Randolph confirmed the rave will return next semester, scheduled for one of the first weekends after students return to campus. “We want people to be excited about coming back to school, and a lot of the board will be less busy. So there’ll be time to set up,” she said.
In the meantime, Rackham’s house board hosted an alternative event: the Rackham Campout Cinema on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The event, held in Rackham’s backyard, featured an outdoor movie screening of two comedies, including the 2007 hit “Superbad,” starring Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill. Guests had barbecue fare, including hot dogs and hamburgers, along with a candy bar and popcorn station.
“I loved it. I think that the movie was really funny and I think that the food was great,” said junior Jesús Soto Bossa, intramurals head on Rackham’s house board. “The environment was really nice.”
Despite Rackham Rave being on hold, the Campout Cinema gave students a chance to unwind, laugh, and connect, they said.
