If you aren’t a student athlete, you may not be confident in what SLIAC stands for, let alone what it means to be in a conference. The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) allows student-athletes the chance to participate in competitions against different schools and potentially get through to regional and even national championships. SLIAC is a NCAA Division III conference that is made up of schools in Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri which will travel to play each other throughout their sport’s season. SLIAC schools do not give athletic scholarships, only awarding students in academic ones which keeps them “a student in the purest sense” (SLIAC). The schools within this conference are Blackburn College, Eureka College, Greenville University, Spalding University, Webster University, Westminster College, Fontbonne University and Principia College, of course. Two schools joined the conference last year, Lyon University and Mississippi University for Women, but MUW is allegedly changing their name to Wynbridge State University. Fontbonne will also be leaving the conference soon, as the school itself is shutting down. All of Prin’s athletic teams, apart from rugby and tennis, are a part of the SLIAC conference.
