Last weekend was Homecoming Weekend on campus. The volleyball team played a double-header against Webster and Eureka, and the team fought hard in both games. Although the men’s and women’s soccer games against Greenville had to be cancelled, the sports festivities continued with alumni soccer, volleyball, and baseball games. On Friday night, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Greg Mortenson spoke in Cox Auditorium. On Saturday, students braved the cold to attend the homecoming dance, which was held at Lockhaven Country Club.

Buchanan on Political Discourse

Last Thursday night, senior Will Buchanan, a political science major, gave a talk in Wanamaker about why the nation’s political discourse is deteriorating. During his talk, which was sponsored by the Cox School of Government, Buchanan focused on social theories about who people talk to and how they perceive bias, the changing role of the media in presenting unbiased coverage of events, and how the political discourse in our nation can be improved. Buchanan used examples ranging from perceived referee bias at a football game to the theory that President Obama is not an American citizen to illustrate his points. The talk was followed by refreshments in Leonard Hall.
