How Do I Make Friends, if I am Not Involved with Sports?

Sports are definitely not the only way to meet new people. At Principia, there are a myriad of different ways ways to get involved and make close friends. Here are a few of my tips for meeting new people.

Forget learning in class! Making friends is much more important. Classes are a great opportunity to make friends, and is where I have met some of my best friends. Most class sizes are relatively small. This makes it much easier to reach out and talk to that person sitting across from you. Use homework as your wingman and ask to study together outside of class. This will set you up perfectly for the best-pub-friend-date ever.

If you skip most of your classes, then I have another suggestion to meet people outside of the classroom. I recommend attending club meetings and social events. You could also make funny comments on Prin’s Craigslist posts. Being involved connects you to many people around campus from all grade levels. It is a great way to gain confidence and open yourself up. Also, people love humor, so if you can create a funny Facebook post, then you will be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, if you’re too lazy to do any of this, find someone who is social and just ask them to help you make friends. This way, you don’t have to do any of the work! Just remember to have confidence in yourself and know that most people genuinely love meeting new people. Everyone at Principia is neighborly and would gladly be your friend.

Any Suggestions on How to Dress Indoors versus Outdoors?

This is a debatable topic because no matter how you dress, you always end up too cold or too hot. So here is how to avoid the mistake of under dressing or over dressing.

This time of the year, the sun is blazing down and you’re questioning if you should just wear your swimsuit to class. But don’t be fooled by the heat. Though it may be hot, humid and sticky outside, it’s a completely different scenario indoors.

Principia air conditioning is no stranger to Antarctica. If you are looking for a “cool breeze” inside, keep looking. Rather than keeping you satisfyingly cool, the air conditioning aims to freeze your entire body, mind and soul. My recommendation to escape the freezing ice cap indoors is to always carry a jacket. This way you will be better equipped to defeat the air conditioning beast in the dining room.

As fall and winter approach, the air conditioning will vanish and a new monster will arise, the heater. Pause for dramatic effect. Make sure to wear short sleeves under your winter jacket, because the inside heat will feel like the scorching sun. Whenever it is summer outside, it is winter indoors. With these tips, I hope you survive the confusing summer and winter indoor weather.
