Revenge of the pop-rock nerds and a lukewarm solo effort
Friday, November 13th, 2009Weezer Raditude movethatjukebox.com / photo With the release of Weezer’s seventh album, fans and critics alike are wondering what the heck is going on with the pop-rock nerds. Some audiences believe frontman Rivers Cuomo is ruining Weezer’s glory days of the 90s, when they made their most cherished works – 1994’s self-titled, fan-stamped Blue Album [...]
Sex, drugs, and alcohol – the bigger picture
Friday, November 13th, 2009From what I know about student life here, it seems that this quarter has seen a higher level of sex, drugs, and alcohol usage on our campus. I do my best to avoid the knee-jerk reactions or judgments that are common when that happens, and to get my thought to a place where I can behold the man that is attracted only to good.
Pilot’s Perspective: standard challenges
Friday, November 13th, 2009There is a perception among campus leadership that sexual activity, drug use, and alcohol consumption are on the rise on campus. When we simply ignore standards, we compromise our own integrity. There are many ways to take a stand. The nail in the coffin
Friday, November 13th, 2009There is bi-partisanship regarding the public option – against it.
Democratic Senators Lieberman, Nelson (NE), the other Nelson (FL), Bayh, Landrieu, Lincoln, and Pryor are not in support of the public option. There are still more Democrats, like the ones from the Dakotas, who are sitting on the fence.
The radical right’s response
Friday, November 13th, 2009Last Saturday night at 9:40 p.m., I sat watching C-SPAN as the House of Representatives passed a healthcare reform bill. Then I watched the radical right go indiscriminately crazy. I’m going to write a little bit about how these radicals are taking over the Republican Party. First we’ll look at the recent special election in New York’s 23rd district, and then we’ll come back to healthcare.
Prodigious Principian pair
Friday, November 13th, 2009A four-year-old boy is pulling at his mother’s skirt, pleading with her to let him play the violin. His mother asks him if he is going to practice every day. The boy assures her that he will. His mother sighs. After a week of begging, she decides her son is serious enough to give it [...]
Four captains, one team
Friday, November 13th, 2009There is an average of one captain per three players on women’s volleyball, a unique situation which could go to the Principia record books. This is because the volleyball team voted unanimously to have all four seniors – Hannah Richards, Katie Duntley, Teddye Shaffer and Anne Goodrich-Stuart – as captains.
Spanish project gone wrong
Friday, November 13th, 2009It started as a Spanish class assignment and turned into a kitchen fire. Three sophomores and a junior were attempting to cook a fried Mexican dish in the Sylvester kitchen on Friday, October 23.
Reception within Reach!
Friday, November 13th, 2009Life on campus is about to change, as the campus is about to receive cell coverage. Principia’s own cell phone tower is scheduled to go online sometime next week (11/16 – 11/20). The construction of the tower cost Principia little, as sponsor AT&T hopes to make profit by selling phones and coverage plans to Principia students and employees.
